The Top 10 Most Reliable car manufacturers in the U.K. 2024

Updated: Apr 11

In today's world, buying a reliable car is more important than ever. Many people rely on their vehicles for daily commuting, family trips, and errands. Therefore, knowing which car manufacturers consistently produce dependable vehicles is crucial for potential buyers. Recent customer polls offer insightful data on the most reliable car manufacturers in the United Kingdom.

The results from a 2024 customer poll done by What Car? has some real surprises, both in terms of who are in it compared to 2023, and who are out of it. Note; these results take into account both new and older models.

  1. Mini

This one surprised me. In the recent past Mini were certainly not known for their reliability, but customers now seem to rate them. Bit of a shocker, this one!

  1. Lexus

Zero surprise or shock with this one. Lexus tend to be near the top of customer reliability and satisfaction year-on-year. They're a great brand and one of my personal favourites.

  1. Suzuki

Suzuki have been making reliable and tough cars for a good while now, and if they do go wrong they tend to be cheap to repair (when out of warranty). They've got an interesting line-up too.

  1. Honda

Knocked down the usual chart position by a few notches, but still producing highly reliable machines, Honda's customers were apparently very happy with the service they received should issues occur. Never a bad thing.

  1. Toyota

You only have to take a look at used car adverts to see just how reliable Toyotas are in the long-run (bar one of the diesel models). Go for their hybrid models - you'll regularly see older ones for sale with 300,000+ miles on the clock - and you'll rarely have to pay pay out for repairs.

  1. Dacia

Outside of the top 10 most reliable cars list last year, Dacia (owned by Renault) are now more hightly rated by owners, who are apparently also happy with the level of service given by Dacia dealerships. These are fairly simple budget cars that are sold worldwide, and it's no wonder they sell well as they're actually pretty tough cars.

  1. Citroën

Yes, you read that right; Citroën are in a top 10 most reliable car survey. Older French cars have a bad reputation for reliability issues, but they must finally be upping their game in that department.

  1. BMW

While they're in the top 10 this year, the reliability is entirely dependant on the model, as some are downright terrible for breakdowns, and especially so with older models. Be careful when choosing, and have a read of the What Car? article to see specifics.

  2. Renault

As with BMW, rating Renault for reliability is not a straightforward matter, with some models ranking very well and others doing pretty terribly. Do your research well on each car - taking into account surverys and customer reviews like the What Car? one - before making a decision.

  1. Hyundai

Customers seemed happy with the reliability of their Hyundais, with only minor costs for the most part, and Hyundai apparently looking after customers well when any issues occurred under warranty.

So, this was the top 10 most reliable cars from 2024. Hopefully you'll find it useful!
